The Emmerick, Emerts or Emmerts, as they were called, ca me from a distinguished ancestry dating back to the Crusade s in medieval history when one Emerick, a German knight, be came a distinguished Crusader to the Holy Land. Several o f the Emmerts were German knights and had a Coat of Arms ma de to pertetuate the family title. In one of the great ar t galleries of New York City there isstill to be found a Co at of arms bearing the proud title, Von Emmert. This Coa t of Arms was brought to the hudson Valley by the Dutch set tlers.
