Text | Jonathan; When my "partner in crime", Patricia Emmert Manning and I began researching our Emmert family, we found early research on the family that combined both the families of Johan George Emmert and Johan Philip Emmert into one big family along with an Emmett family of Maryland. It took a number of research trips and some time to sort them out. We came to the conclusion that these were two different families with the same surname. Your ancestor and family settled in western Berks county and my spouse's in the eastern part of the same county. In researching church records, we found no connection between the two families. Indeed your family was Lutheran while ours were Evangelical. German baptismal records are great family research records as the sponsors are usually related in some way to the parents and child. In identifying sponsors, we found no one from your side sponsoring a child from our side and visa versa. Also, the first name in the record is the baptismal name and the second is usually the name the I have attached a paper which outlines the research and documentation for our research. When Patricia Law Hatcher, the editor of my article published in the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine was in Salt Lake City, she consulted with Annette Burgert about my research. Annette despite all of her research, has never found the ancestral village for her and your Emmert ancestor. She read the Neckarelz records hoping to find her ancestor without success. The Neckarelz records are available on microfilm from the Family History Library but my publication outlines that research without having to read the original records. I wish I could help you more but my conclusion is that they are two different families. Nancy Emmert | |
